When Is the Best Time

It's best early in the morning or late afternoon to beat the crowds and feel the mystic atmosphere.

Ireland's temperate climate is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. The summer is mild and damp; the winter is cold and wet. Freezing temperatures and snowfall is rare. The highest temperatures in summer are between 17°C and 20°C / 64°F and 68°F. June and July are the driest months. Anyhow, precipitation in Island is usual. Best months for traveling are from April until October.

Crowds

It's a popular place and during weekends often busy. Friday afternoon and evening only a few visitors. Summer is the peak season. It’s less busy in spring and autumn.

Glendalough, Wicklow Mountains

Ireland

Glendalough is one of the most important and oldest monastic sites in Ireland. It's an excellent example of an early Christian settlement from the 6th century. Most of the extant buildings date back to the 10th through the 12th century. It got destroyed by the Normans in 1214 A.D.

The monastery is located in the Wicklow Mountains. We got the recommendation to visit the Monastic Site on a Friday evening, and there were very view visitors only. The next morning we went hiking in the Wicklow Mountains to beat the crowds. When we came back to the car park, it was utterly full.
