When Is the Best Time

The New Chums Beach is still a hidden gem. There isn't any road to the beach or cafe just pure nature. It's advisable to come two hours after high tide and around low tide here. During high tide, you may either get wet feet when reaching the beach, the beach is pretty small or you are blocked when you want to leave. It depends on the high tide level, the wind, and the surf. Weather

Coromandel is a year-round destination with a mild climate. The precipitation on the Coromandel peninsula is sometimes significant even in summer. The weather is influenced by the mountain range and the sea. The "driest" months are from January to April while the warmest months are December to March mostly between 20 to 25°C. April is a bit cooler but still pleasant. Most rainfall in winter with its peak in July; also the coldest month. The winter temps are around 10-12°C and drop to roughly 6°C. Frost is not common.

Coromandel, Whangapoua Beach

This secluded world-class beach, voted one of the top 20 in the world, is not easily accessible and still a hidden gem. There isn’t any building, road or café, just nature. Even camping is not allowed. If you want to escape the crowds, this is your beach. Park your car at Whangapoua Beach, walk to the northern end of the beach and cross the lagoon stream. Walk on boulders until you reach the trail close to the coast, through dense forest and over the saddle. This walk is roughly one km long and may take up to 30 minutes. The view from the lookout is spectacular, but it's a tough and hairy climb up. The lookout is not marked; follow the track of other hikers. Enjoy this secluded white sandy beach. Don't forget a towel, plenty of water, and a snack. Wear proper shoes; the rocks can be slippery after rain.

TIP: Don't miss the best view of the beach from the top of the promontory.

I've seen quite some beaches on this world and this one left me speechless. Definitely in the top 5 most natural and beautiful beaches there are from my POV.
