I am Micha, currently living close to the Alps and Neuschwanstein Castle. I infected my husband Markus with the travel bug, and he joins me most of the time.
My passion is travelling and photographing. I took and take most of the pictures in all my guides, a few were taken by my husband Markus and some by my best friends and brother René. A good picture can express more than a thousand words, especially if you are looking up a hidden gem like Yellow Rock or the poorly marked hiking trail to The Wave in Arizona. Yes, we won the famous Wave permit in September 2023.
I got photography lessons from the professional photographer Chris Engel, a good friend of mine. However, it is more than learning skills, passion and the idea behind the photo are essential. Initially, I studied economics and worked at the headquarters of a big fashion company before my hobby became a full-time job.
Being one with nature, enjoying good food, and my camera is all I need. My camera is permanently joining me to capture magical moments when I've been out and about. My other passion is music - I can't live without it.

My actual camera is my Olympus OM-D EM 10 Mark IV. I love this camera because it takes great shots and 4K footage. Today, I am focused on pictures and videos. A one-minute short or video can explain much more to determine if this is a place you want to visit.
Please support me and subscribe to my YouTube Channel to find more ideas on where to travel next. With AI-generated content, it became more challenging for you as a traveller to find honest tips from real experts and for me to keep this website running. I depend on affiliate links, but I will soon disable ads on my website. There used to be an unspoken agreement between Google and travel bloggers: We provided valuable content, and in return, we appeared in Google search results. But, as always, profit became the priority, and many sites no longer fit into the system.
Our content was taken, but we receive nothing in return. This isn’t just a problem for the travel industry—it affects many other sectors as well. Today, this phenomenon is known as Google Zero. While other search engines still work, Google has abused its dominance—and I, too, have been affected.

Instead of seeing this as a setback, I took it as an opportunity and successfully built something new for myself. I still update and refine my articles, but I rarely add new content. That’s why positive feedback and sharing my work on social media mean even more to me.
You can mainly find hidden gems and hikes off the beaten path, like in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, or extraordinary places like Land Diving in Pentecost or the Puffins on Lunga Island at best time 2 travel.
I founded www.whentobewhere.com in 2015 with the vision of sharing the most magical places and the perfect time to experience them around the world. I was one of the first to focus on the best time to visit, a concept that became the foundation of our success.
But sometimes, life takes unexpected turns—ones beyond your control. Trusting the wrong person, someone you once called a best friend and brother-in-law, can change everything. That experience shaped my journey, and it’s part of the story behind what I do today. Giving up has never been part of my philosophy. Instead, I seized the opportunity to take a new path and carve out an entirely different direction for myself in life.
In January 2021, I launched my second project—made possible by the incredible support of my husband Markus, my brother René, and my friends, especially Rik and Paul. Even the challenge of Google Zero was something I overcame, thanks to the amazing people in my life.
My goal is to provide you with genuine, people-first content. Unlike many fake websites that generate AI-written text without ever visiting the places they describe, I only offer honest recommendations based on firsthand experience. Every destination I suggest has been personally explored, ensuring that you get reliable advice for an exceptional journey. And sometimes, that means advising against a trip if I believe it won’t meet your expectations like Adam's Peak in Sri Lanka.

Portugal feels like my second home, as many of my relatives live there. We visit them annually in the Lisbon area, which has deepened my connection to this beautiful country. That’s why I’ve included numerous destinations—including hidden, often-overlooked beaches—from mainland Portugal, as well as the breathtaking islands of Madeira and the Azores.
With over a million visitors annually under my trademark 'When to be Where,' starting over from scratch was no easy task. To keep besttime2travel running, I rely on affiliate partnerships, which allow me to earn a small commission and continue offering this website free of charge.

Which Camera Do I Use?
Most of my shots were taken with my Olympus OM-D EM 10 Mirrorless Micro-Four-Thirds camera. I love it so much because it’s not too big for my hands and I can carry it easily everywhere. The outstanding EVF is extremely bright and works ideally outdoors. I never go without my camera.

I used a Mark II and Mark III, and now the OM-D E-M4 to take 4K footage.

My day-to-day lens is a Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-60 mm. The Micro-Four-Thirds Sensor makes it easy to use Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300 mm, which is equal to a 200-600mm lens for an APS-C Camera for shooting long range.

Picture Theft or Stolen Images
Are you wondering why I am using such a big logo now? I refused to do it for six years for an outstanding user experience, but hundreds of my pictures are used to generate revenue without my permission or any credit. If you wish to use any of my photos, contact me, but I no longer accept any picture theft. I'm working with Copytrack an expert for global enforcement of image rights, to identify misuse of my pictures.
Do you have any questions? Need any advice? Would you like to use my pictures legally? Please write me an e-mail: micha at besttime2travel.com
